Thanksgiving Inspiration

This Thanksgiving, share your love of family, friends, and country by creating a tablescape worthy of their company, and one that is just as easy as it is pretty. Orange is the color of this season’s Thanksgiving setting with mini pumpkins as adorable votive holders, orange roses, and persimmon colored grape tomatoes.

We started with a white tablecloth to create a crisp clean look and then added gold chargers, and topped them with bright white plates.  Simple acrylic placecard holders and orange placecards help lessen the chaos, giving you peace of mind while your guests find their way.

White pillar candles placed in tall clear glass cylinder vases make an easy and elegant centerpiece when kumquats or persimmon-colored grape tomatoes are filled-in around the bottom of the candle.  If the candle wants to slide around while you fill around it with your orange colored fruit, try using a small ball of playdough or clay between the bottom of the candle and the glass vase.

To add life to the center of the table, we added square glass vases and filled them with orange roses.  Creating these gorgeous floral arrangements is much easier than you think.  First we cut a square of florist foam about an inch smaller than the opening of the vase.  You’ll want it to also be about an inch below the top of the vase once it is placed inside.  Next we used long narrow leaves from a Spider Plant, although you could use the leaves of an Alocasia or the long leaves of an Iris or Lily plant.  We started at the bottom of one side of the piece of foam and inserted the leaf.  We then wrapped it around the foam block and secured the end with a pin.  We continued this process until all sides of the block were covered.  Next, insert the block into the vase and fill with water a quarter inch from the top of the vase.  Then, cut rosebuds so that the stems are only about 2 to 3 inches.   Be sure to cut at an angle to make it easier to insert into the wet foam.  Insert the rosebud stems into the foam until the entire top of the vase is packed with rosebuds.

To create the pumpkin votive holders, you’ll need a drill, a 2.5 inch hole saw, several mini pumpkins, tealights, and some sand.  Start by carefully drilling a hole in the top of the mini pumpkin.  Scoop out all seeds, rinse and dry, add sand and your tealight, and repeat on your remaining pumpkins.  If powertools aren’t your thing, you can always do it the old-fashioned way and cut the tops out with a pumpkin cutting tool or knife.  A simple project with show-stopping results.

Finish by arranging the glass vases with candles and the flower arrangements in the center of the table and surround them with the pumpkin votives.  Your guests will be truly impressed.
